You can seek services to support your work and functional capacity through employment services. Such services include, for example, health check-ups and rehabilitation services for the unemployed.
Work ability refers to a person’s individual ability cope with work. It depends on, among other things, physical and mental resources, attitudes and skills. On this page, you will find information about various services to define your work ability. If you need assistance with seeking services, you can ask for help from your assigned specialist at the Employment Services.
Services to support work and functional capacity

The Abilitator® is a free work and functional capacity self-assessment method for all persons of working age. The Abilitator questionnaire helps you define your situation, key strengths and areas for improvement.

A health check-up for the unemployed assesses and supports health and well-being, while defining the work and functional capacity and potential rehabilitation needs. The health check-up is voluntary and free of charge to you as a client.

Rehabilitative work activities are organised by the social services with the aim to strengthen your everyday life management and work and functional capacity, and to help you to get back into employment more easily.

Vocational rehabilitation by the Social Insurance Institution Kela
Kela’s vocational rehabilitation assessment is aimed at adults and working age youth. The service is suitable for situations where support from a multidisciplinary team is required.
Vocational rehabilitation can be implemented in various ways. You can get support from Kela for training that enables you to work regardless of an illness or disability.

Vocational rehabilitation by an employment pension institution
Vocational rehabilitation by an employment pension institution may be suitable for your situation if you are under a risk of having to retire on a disability pension in the next few years. Such a risk refers to a situation where a person’s disability or illness would result in retirement on a disability pension without the intervention of vocational rehabilitation.
In addition, vocational rehabilitation should prevent or delay the expected incapacity for work. Rehabilitation aims to restore your work capacity so that you can continue or return to work.
