After-school, club and hobby activities

After-school activities for pupils

The City of Kerava and the parish organise paid after-school activities for pupils. After-school activities are intended for pupils in years 1–2 and for pupils in years 3–9 who are admitted to special needs education. The activity is organised from 12.00 to 16.00.

After-school activities in Finnish are hosted in schools and the premises of Kerava parish. After-school activities in Swedish are hosted at the Swedish-speaking Svensbacka skola.

Applying for after-school activities

Children are admitted to after-school activities on the basis of equal admission criteria. If it is not possible to arrange a place for all applicants, priority is given to Year 1 pupils. In Kerava, there has usually been room for all applicants.

You can apply for after-school activities throughout the school year in Wilma. The form can be found on the guardian’s front page in the Applications and decisions section.

If you cannot submit the online application, you can apply using a printed form. Return the form to:

  • by mail to Keravan Kaupunki, kasvatuksen ja opetuksen toimiala, iltapäivätoiminta, PL 123, 04201 Kerava or
  • deliver the form to the Kerava customer service point at Kultasepänkatu 7, 04250 Kerava or
  • scan and email the form to opetus(at)kerava.fi

If you want your Year 1 pupil or Year 3–9 pupil receiving special support to continue in after-school activities the following school year, you must submit a new application every year.

Cancelling the after-school placement

You can cancel the after-school placement in writing with a form that is returned to the school or parish. The notice period is one month.

Fees

More information on fees is available on the Finnish-language pages.

Club and hobby activities

Schools organise free club and hobby activities together with local sports clubs, art colleges and associations.

Clubs and hobbies are supervised either by the schools’ teachers or by external partners such as art colleges and sports clubs.

School clubs are organised mainly in the afternoons. Some schools may also organise clubs on weekday mornings or in the middle of the day.

The wishes of pupils are listened to when planning club activities for the year. Based on suggestions, the principal decides on the organisation of school clubs. For more information on school clubs, please contact the principal of your school.
